Tea rooms

We have decided to use the  barn with it’s atmospheric high beamed ceiling to house the tea-rooms. We think the barn would once have been the Victorian carriage house, as we discovered evidence of the old driveway in this area. Having painted the ceiling red above the beams and wound fresh hop garlands around the roof supports, there is now a rustic charm, which we hope will be conducive, to companiable afternoon tea. It was a puzzle to decide the best way to reflect the medieval history relating to the priory, at the same time as giving a true representation of a quality Georgian or Victorian tea room. We hope the result is pleasing as well as unique.

Bone-china, and antique lace

For the bone china I was lucky enough to catch what turned out fortuitously for us to be the end of an era, in as far as many of the well known British potteries have now been taken over and are no longer to be manufactured in this country, resulting in a vast sale of end of lines. Some of the most popular will still be produced overseas but it’s not quite the same is it?

The tables will be dressed with a linen/hemp under-cloth to remind us of the medieval history here. This will be overlaid with antique lace top cloth. Fresh seasonal flowers and herbs picked from the gardens will deck each table.

Table service will be by our trained team of local waiters and waitresses.
